Captain of Hampshire Hawks in Global Super League 2024 – Chris Wood

Hampshire’s record-breaking T20 wicket taker, Chris Wood, will lead the Hampshire Hawks in the inaugural Global Super League (GSL) in Guyana.

Wood, who holds the title of Hampshire’s all-time leading T20 wicket taker with 191 wickets, has also established himself as the fourth-highest wicket taker in Vitality Blast history.

As the team’s new captain for the tournament, he steps in as club captain James Vince is unavailable, having committed to playing for Delhi Bulls in the Abu Dhabi T10 competition, which runs from November 21 to December 2.

“I’m honored to captain Hampshire in the Global Super League,” said Wood. “I had the chance to play a game in the competition a few years ago, and I’m excited to lead the team in Guyana.”

Wood’s T20 career with Hampshire began in 2010 against Kent, and over the years, he has been instrumental in the club’s success, helping them secure five white-ball titles, including three T20 victories in 2010, 2012, and 2022.

Recognizing his invaluable contributions, Hampshire Cricket has awarded Wood a testimonial year in 2024, and he signed a contract extension earlier in the summer, ensuring his presence at the Utilita Bowl until at least the end of 2025.

In the past three seasons, Wood has taken 48 wickets at an economy rate of 7.88, with only three seamers in the Vitality Blast boasting better economy rates in both the powerplay and death overs.

The full Hampshire Hawks squad for the GSL will be announced soon.
