West Indies all-rounder Romario Shepherd is generating excitement for the first-ever ExxonMobil Guyana Global Super League T20, scheduled to run from November 26 to December 6 in Guyana.
Shepherd’s journey in cricket began in 2016 when he debuted for Guyana in the List A format, followed by first-class cricket in 2017.
Known for his aggressive batting and sharp pace bowling, Shepherd quickly found his calling in the fast-paced T20 format. Over the years, he has grown into a T20 specialist, excelling as a finisher with explosive batting and contributing consistently with his bowling.
Shepherd encourages cricket fans to secure tickets early for the highly anticipated tournament, where his team, the Guyana Amazon Warriors, will take on formidable opponents, including the Hampshire Hawks, Lahore Qalandars, Rangpur Riders, and Victoria.
Shepherd’s career in domestic and international leagues has also bolstered his experience, as he’s been a standout player in multiple global tournaments such as the Caribbean Premier League (CPL), Indian Premier League (IPL), SA20, Bangladesh Premier League (BPL), and Major League Cricket (MLC).
Most recently, while representing the Mumbai Indians (MI) in the 2024 IPL season, Shepherd delivered a memorable performance by scoring 32 runs in a single over off Anrich Nortje, hitting four sixes and two boundaries. This show of power-hitting is a prime example of why Shepherd is one of the most sought-after players in T20 cricket.
His career in the CPL began in 2018 with the Guyana Amazon Warriors, where he initially batted in the lower order and quickly made a name for himself as a powerful finisher. His success with the ball, particularly in the 2021 CPL, where he took 18 wickets at an economy rate of 7.69 and scored 109 runs at a striking rate of 165, was pivotal in establishing his reputation as a dual-threat in the T20 format.
Internationally, Shepherd has continued to impress, especially during his 11th T20I against England in January 2022, where he struck 44* off 28 balls, showcasing his explosive batting. This performance caught the attention of the IPL scouts, leading to his recruitment by Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) for the 2022 season. His career has seen him move across several IPL franchises, including Lucknow Super Giants in 2023 and MI in 2024.
As Shepherd joins the inaugural ExxonMobil Guyana Global Super League T20, fans are eager to witness his hard-hitting skills and precise bowling up close. His experience in both domestic and international leagues will likely be a key asset to the Guyana Amazon Warriors as they strive to make their mark in this landmark T20 event.
