Captain of Rangpur Riders in Global Super League – Nurul Hasan Sohan

As the highly anticipated Global Super League (GSL) kicks off in Guyana on November 26, Nurul Hasan Sohan, the captain of the Rangpur Riders, is ready to lead his team to success.

Departing for the West Indies on Tuesday alongside teammates Saifuddin and Soumya Sarkar, Nurul emphasized that the team’s ultimate aim is to return home as champions. However, he noted that the key to their success lies in approaching each match with focus and strategy.

“This is a huge opportunity for us,” Nurul said at the Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport. “We are not just representing Rangpur Riders, but we are also carrying the responsibility of representing Bangladesh. It’s going to be challenging, but we will give our best to make our country proud.”

With five top-tier teams competing for the title, Nurul acknowledged the competitiveness of the tournament. “Our ultimate goal is to return as champions, but we need to take it one match at a time. Every game is important, and if we can reach the final, it will be a huge accomplishment for us,” he added.

The added responsibility of representing Bangladesh only fueled the team’s excitement. “We are very excited for this tournament, but there is also a lot of responsibility on us to do something good for Bangladesh,” said Nurul.

Reflecting on his experience in Guyana, Nurul mentioned that the pitches there tend to favor spinners. “Last time I played, the conditions helped spinners more. Thankfully, we have world-class spinners in our team, and we have a compact squad. If we play to our best potential, something great could happen,” he concluded.

As Nurul leads the Rangpur Riders, all eyes will be on him to bring home the Global Super League trophy. With the tournament set to unfold over the next few weeks, the team’s hopes are high, and their captain is determined to guide them to glory.

Nurul Hasan Sohan is no stranger to the pressures of high-level cricket. A seasoned wicketkeeper-batter and one of Bangladesh’s most reliable cricketing talents, Nurul has built a reputation as a calm and composed leader, making him the ideal choice to captain the Rangpur Riders for the GSL T20, 2024.

Born into a cricketing family, Nurul’s journey began in domestic cricket, where he made his first-class debut in 2011. Over the years, his consistency in both batting and wicketkeeping earned him a place among Bangladesh’s most dependable cricketers. While Khaled Mashud and Mushfiqur Rahim were established figures behind the stumps, Nurul steadily rose through the ranks, showcasing his talent and determination.

His international debut came in January 2016 when he made his T20I debut against Zimbabwe, followed by an ODI debut later that year during Bangladesh’s tour of New Zealand. These appearances marked the beginning of his career on the global stage, where he would go on to represent Bangladesh with distinction.

Nurul’s rise through the ranks of Bangladesh cricket was supported by his impressive performances at the Under-19 level, where he represented Bangladesh in two ICC Under-19 World Cups (2010 and 2012). He earned praise for his outstanding performances in the domestic National Cricket League, where he amassed 489 runs at an average of 81.50, including two centuries in the 2013-14 season. His stellar domestic form also earned him a spot in the Bangladesh A team, which further propelled his career.

His consistency continued in the Dhaka Premier League, where he scored over 500 runs in 2016, including a memorable century. As a dependable middle-order batter and wicketkeeper, Nurul cemented his position as one of the top choices for Bangladesh’s national team.

As captain of the Rangpur Riders, Nurul Hasan Sohan brings years of leadership experience and cricketing expertise to the fore. Known for his tactical acumen and calm under pressure, he is expected to guide his team through the highs and lows of the Global Super League 2024 with poise and determination.
