Former Hampshire left-arm spinner Danny Briggs is set to rejoin the Hampshire Hawks for the upcoming Global Super League, marking a homecoming for the Isle of Wight-born cricketer.
Briggs, the all-time leading wicket-taker in English T20 cricket, played a crucial role in Hampshire’s white-ball success from 2009 to 2015, securing three trophies during his tenure.
Briggs debuted for Hampshire in 2009 against Nottinghamshire, taking 119 wickets in 94 appearances for the club. Over the years, he represented Sussex, Warwickshire, and top franchises such as the Adelaide Strikers, Oval Invincibles, and Southern Brave.
Reflecting on his return, Briggs shared, “It’s a great feeling to come back to my home club for the Global Super League. Being back in the Utilita Bowl dressing room with Southern Brave this year brought back memories, and I’m excited to contribute to Hampshire’s quest for silverware in Guyana.”
A master of slow left-arm bowling, Briggs has been a cornerstone of England’s domestic cricket, excelling in limited-overs formats. He first made waves in 2010, claiming 31 wickets during Hampshire’s successful FPt20 campaign, and later represented England in ODIs and T20Is. Though his international stint was brief, Briggs has consistently dominated the domestic scene, becoming the first bowler to surpass 200 wickets in the T20 Blast in 2022.
Beyond T20 cricket, Briggs has showcased his all-around abilities in county cricket, including a maiden first-class century in 2017 and critical contributions to Warwickshire’s Championship survival in 2022.
