South African all-rounder Dwaine Pretorius is preparing to make an impact in the inaugural ExxonMobil Guyana Global Super League (GSL) T20, which is scheduled to take place from November 26 to December 6 in Guyana.
Pretorius will represent the Guyana Amazon Warriors, competing alongside teams like Hampshire Hawks, Lahore Qalandars, Rangpur Riders, and Victoria, all vying for a share of the impressive US$1 million prize pool.
In this league, he is playing with his country fellow & captain of Amazon Warriors Imran Tahir, who is also a bowler & a pure entertainer in the field.
Pretorius, who has become a crucial player in the T20 circuit, is known for his tactical all-round skills. The 34-year-old has come a long way since knee injuries reshaped his career in South Africa.
Forced to change his bowling style, Pretorius now focuses on precision rather than raw pace, utilizing slower balls and length variations. He honed these skills as a death-overs specialist during the 2021 T20 World Cup, where he claimed nine wickets and achieved the best strike rate of the tournament (9.7).
A consistent performer, Pretorius boasts a notable international career. He made his ODI debut for South Africa in 2016, and in his second ODI innings, scored a half-century. His T20I debut in 2019 featured an impressive unbeaten 42-ball 77, which propelled South Africa to victory against Sri Lanka. His best T20I bowling figures came in 2021 when he recorded 5 for 17 against Pakistan, setting a national record.
