Fortune Barishal, having chosen to sit out of the Global Super League, has offered their spot to Rangpur Riders, who qualified due to their recent BPL performance.
Barishal extended their best wishes through social media, by posting the following:
“Wishing our friends at Rangpur Riders the best of luck for the upcoming Global Super League! We hope Captain Sohan and his teammates can make the most of this brilliant opportunity.”
Rangpur Riders responded with a “fist bump” emoji, expressing their appreciation for the support.
Though star all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan represented Rangpur Riders in the last Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) season, he will not be participating with the team in the upcoming Global Super League.
Rangpur will instead be led by captain Nurul Hasan Sohan, with key players like all-rounder Mahedi Hasan and Mohammad Saifuddin, who recently made an impression at the Hong Kong Sixes tournament. The team will be strengthened by five international players, bringing the squad size to 14.
The Rangpur squad, built with a view to both the Global Super League and the future BPL season, retained players like Sohan, Mahedi, and Saifuddin ahead of the draft, while they picked up Soumya Sarkar and Saif Hassan to add depth.
National all-rounder Rishad Hossain and left-handed batter Afif Hossain also feature in the squad, along with left-arm spinner Arafat Sunny and pace bowler Kamrul Islam Rabbi.
For their international lineup, Rangpur has secured five foreign talents: West Indies all-rounder Matthew Forde, England’s Wayne Madsen and Zak Chappell, and from the U.S., off-spinning batter Harmeet Singh and his teammate Steven Taylor.
The Global Super League will host a number of strong teams alongside Rangpur, including England’s Hampshire Hawks, Pakistan’s Lahore Qalandars, Victoria from Australia’s domestic circuit, and Guyana Amazon Warriors as the hosts.
Notably, Bangladesh’s pacer Tanzim Hasan Sakib is expected to join the Guyana Amazon Warriors, pending his fitness and necessary clearances, marking a second Bangladeshi presence in the league.
