Motie Joins Guyana Amazon Warriors for Global Super League 2024

Gudakesh Motie will be a key player for the Guyana Amazon Warriors in the 2024 ExxonMobil Guyana Global Super League (GSL), set to take place at the Guyana National Stadium, Providence, from November 26 to December 6.

A staple of the Amazon Warriors since 2021, Motie has grown into one of the team’s most dependable bowlers.

Motie played a significant role in their 2023 Caribbean Premier League (CPL) title and impressed in 2024, emerging as the top wicket-taker with 17 dismissals at an average of 18.64. He’ll be joined by fellow Guyanese talents Shimron Hetmyer, Romario Shepherd, Keemo Paul along with a couple of exciting overseas star players.

Gudakesh Motie, a tall left-arm spinner of Guyanese Indian heritage, has become a key figure in West Indies cricket across all formats. His name first gained recognition during the 2014 Under-19 World Cup, and he made his T20I debut against Pakistan in 2021, followed by his Test and ODI debuts against Bangladesh in 2022

In February 2023, Motie set a new benchmark for West Indies spinners in Test cricket with a career-best 13 for 99 against Zimbabwe, breaking a record that had stood since 1950.

The 2024 Global Super League will see five teams, Guyana Amazon Warriors, Hampshire Hawks, Lahore Qalandars, Rangpur Riders, and Victoria; competing for a US$1 million prize fund over 11 matches. Organized annually, the tournament attracts T20 talent from around the world.

From his beginnings in Berbice to becoming a six-foot left-arm spin force, Motie’s journey has been defined by determination and a steady rise in form. His impressive performances for Guyana and the West Indies position him as a player to watch in this year’s Global Super League.
